Come And See

KNOW GOD (part 1)

The vast majority of this worlds inhabitants fail to know God the way that one should. In Job it is said of the people, “Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him who does not know God” (Job 18:21). It could just as easily be said that the land in which we live has become wicked as we find more and more efforts to remove God from the different venues of our lives. While we could expect an individual to see the glory of God in creation and come to know Him, the word of God reveals fully the attributes of the God we serve. Paul said in Romans 1:20-21, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” In this series of bulletin articles we hope to fulfill the request, “show us the Father” (John 14:9) as we examine the character of God through His revealed word (Heb. 1:1-3).

GOD IS ETERNAL

The first characteristic of God that must be acknowledged is that He has no beginning and He has no end. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 102:24-27, “I said, "O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days; your years are throughout all generations. Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; yes, they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will change them, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.” We serve God, and He has existed throughout all time and creation. We need to appreciate the wisdom and experience of our God and give Him the glory for what He has done throughout eternity.

Time Is In The Hand Of Almighty God

We need to see that God has been man’s protection in every generation. In another psalm is it written, “LORD, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night.” (Psalm 90:1-4).

God Is The Creator Of All Things In Eternity

When Moses was sent by God to the children of Israel, the Lord gave Moses His name, and said, “I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.” (Exod 3:14-15) In this name is captured the idea and reality that our God has always existed. God has no birth…He just was. God has no death…He lives presently and will have the name “I AM” throughout the rest of time. This thought is best understood by the designation given to God in Revelation 4:8 as it states, “The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: "Holy, holy, holy, lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” What an incomprehensible concept, yet one we must grasp in our feeble minds; our God was (past) is (present), and is to come (future). It is recorded by the prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 57:15, “For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Our God inhabits eternity, and we need to serve Him to live with Him forevermore. Since our heavenly Father has created all things, and will be the end of all things, the Bible records Him as saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord…”

Since God has existed from the beginning, those of us who have been created in His image need to give Him proper reverence as we serve Him. While we live in a land that is pushing for the removal of God in the schools, workforce and court systems, we must remember who our King is and remember that He will be the ultimate Judge of mankind. Jeremiah 10:10 states plainly, “But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, and the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.”

God Will Judge Every Generation By His Word

Because God is our true King and Judge, we need to heed the teachings of Paul in I Timothy 1:17, “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” Now that you know about the One True Eternal God, will you study His word and obey it? Don’t continue into eternity without knowing the God of heaven, that you might be saved!
