Come And See

The Bane of Hell, And I Am
Afraid.
INTRODUCTION
1. Many people are so busy
in their everyday life to ever consider the reality, and fear of entering into a place that we call Hell.
2. Hell is usually
described as a place that a preacher uses to scare people into submitting
to salvation. I AGREE...BECAUSE I AM AFRAID AND I WANT YOU TO BE ALSO.
3. Although this kind of
statement would come from an Atheist, or someone who has no belief in the
eternal realm, I am telling you today, and we are going to see from the Bible,
that hell is real and we have plenty of reasons to be afraid of that place,
and a need for salvation so that we do not end up there.
I. I AM AFRAID OF HELL BECAUSE:
A. IT IS A PLACE
THAT IS ETERNAL.
-Eternal
“unending, an immeasurable extent of time.” (Webster’s Dictionary)
-We usually fear having to do something for
an extensive period of time, but Hell is never contemplated and it is eternal.
(job promotions, relocating, making a trip)
1.
Matthew 25:46
-We will all have to relocate spiritually
after this life is over, but it will be an eternal, unending, relocation.
-If we think so much about the physical, we may forget about the
spiritual.
2.
Matthew 18:8-9
-Jesus once again re-affirms for us that
this place called Hell is indeed eternal.
-Jesus is teaching us that if sin is evident
in our life, that we need to remove that sin from our life and make things right
with the Lord, before we are cast into that fiery Hell.
3.
II Thessalonians 1:8-9; Matthew 10:28
-We need to fear God and obey His words,
seeing the reality of what can happen to our soul in Hell.
SONG # 284
verse 2.
B. IT IS A PLACE
OF DARKNESS
1.
II Peter 2:4; Jude 6.
-This same place of darkness is where we can
be by disobeying God’s commands.
2.
Matthew 25:30
-In this parable of talents, the one who
chose not to rightfully use his talents was considered to be a “worthless
slave”, and was to be cast into outer darkness.
-And so we ask: How are we using the talents
that God has given us? Are we headed for outer darkness?
3.
James 1:17; I John 1:5-7; Psalm 119:105.
-It is plain to see that God is Light and
there is no darkness in him, and that we must use that lamp and the light that
he has given us to guide our paths.
-If we are associated with the darkness, or
we are kept in eternal bonds for a place of darkness, understand that we will
not be with the Lord there.
-God has removed Himself from this place,
and He does not dwell there.
SONG # 518
verse 1
C. IT IS A PLACE OF FIRE.
- This is not a
contradiction with darkness as many would say, this is simply a description of
the place that belongs to the devil and his angels and all those that
commit lawlessness.
1.
Matthew 13:41-43; 25:41; Mark 9:44,46,48.
-There is a place of fire that is reserved
for those that do not the work of the Lord.
-There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, and the fire will not
be quenched. (Unpleasant place)
2.
Revelation 20:10,15
-Satan and all of those that choose to
follow him, whose names are not in the book of life will be cast into what is
called a “lake of fire.”
-There is no
contradiction with darkness and fire because I know if you have ever been under the water in a lake you know it is dark. ( CAST INTO LAKE OF FIRE).
- There is no
contradiction with darkness and fire because I know if you have ever looked inside of a furnace or stove of fire, although there are many flames
inside there is no light to be found. ( CAST INTO THE FURNACE OF FIRE).
-Keep in mind that this fire will not be
quenched.
SONG # 283
(all verses then the chorus)
D. IT IS A PLACE OF ETERNAL PAIN WITHOUT
RELIEF AND HOPE.
1.
Matthew 25:30 (Weeping and gnashing of teeth);
Luke 16:23-25, 28
-It is apparent that those that enter this place of torment will not
have any relief as we can see
that the fire is not quenched.(Mark 9:44, 46,48)
-The experience is everlasting, and will not cease, no matter what
it is that we try to do.(Luke
16:26) ...When your there your there!
-There is a great gulf between the righteous
and the evil and there is no turning back from where we are in the end.
2.
Revelation 14:11
-torment forever and ever, no rest day and
night, for all those that serve sin rather than God.
-But God promises a rest to all of His
people, we just need to make sure that we do not come short of it.
Hebrews 4:1
-We must find that place of quiet rest, instead of torment.
SONG # 271
(All verses then the chorus).
E. IT IS A PLACE
WHERE SOME CHURCH MEMBERS MAY GO.
-This should be
frightening to each and every one of us including myself... because many who
gather in a building on Sunday to worship think they are safe from this place
called Hell.
-The devil is out to get
each and every one of us, and we must see his antics before he has us living a life of sin and putting our soul in jeopardy.
1.
Galatians 5:19-21
-Those who practice such things are not
going to inherit the kingdom of God, but many, even in the church will do these
very things and think nothing of it.
2.
Colossians 3:5-9
-These actions that are found in many today
will receive the wrath of God.
-Some forget that they have been purified of
their sins and have put on a new man that follows after the will of God, and
therefore they follow their old ways once again.
3.
II Peter 1:5-11.
-There are certain qualities that a
Christian must develop or he could fall short of the kingdom of God.
-Peter said that those who do not have these
things are blind or short-sighted having forgotten his purification from his
former sins.
-Peter then says if you practice these
things you will never stumble, for in this way the entrance into the eternal
kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
-If some Christians do not grow they will be
lost.
4.
I John 4:7-10; 19-21; I John 3:14-16.
-One of the problems in
the church today is the anger and hatred that some have for one another.
- Consider gossip, angry
remarks, indifference toward others. These are hell-bound actions.
5.
Hebrews 10:25
-Many think that when we come together to
worship God it is an optional thing for a Christians to do.
-Is that what the Hebrew writer thought? NO
...Hebrews
10:26-27
-Many will classify Bible class and worship
in a different category, and act as if one is not as important as the other.
-Is this true? NO I Peter 3:15; II Timothy
2:15.
-We cannot think that we
need not to be at Bible study but that we need to be at worship service.
-We cannot think that a
sporting event, extra spending money, an extra hour of sleep or any other event or activity is more important than studying the word of God, and
worshipping Him or we may find ourselves on a road to damnation and
sorrow.
SONG # 586
verse 3
CONCLUSION.
A. There is a place called Hell.
-It is a place of torment, where there is no
rest for its inhabitancy. Weeping and gnashing of teeth is the actions of those
that will be there and there is no relief. There is darkness and fire in this
place in store for those that obey not the gospel of Christ, and or do not
remain faithful after becoming a child of God.
-Those that end up in Hell will be there
eternally, and their is no way out of that place once we have entered.
B. The Lord has made a way for us to escape
the bondage of sin that we might not be in Hell.
1.
Colossians 1:19-23; Matthew 28:18.
-Christ has all authority in heaven and
earth, and God had all the fullness to dwell in Him.
-Christ has given us God’s plan of salvation
that we could be saved enter into the eternal kingdom.
C. What is the plan of salvation, because I
don’t want to go to Hell?
-If Christ has all
authority, let’s take the words right out of the mouth of Christ, that are found
in the Bible.
-Hear the word of Christ.
John 12:48
-Believe in Christ as God’s Son
.
John 3:16; John 8:24
-Repent of your sin.
Luke 13:3,5
-Confess the name of Christ
Matthew 10:32-33
-Baptism to be saved
Mark 16:16; Matthew 28:18-20
-Faithfulness until death
Revelation 2:10; John 8:31-32.
-If these words will
judge us on the last day, should we not make sure that we follow them
closely.
-You have an opportunity
to obey the gospel today and make yourself a citizen of the home of heaven
instead of taking a chance of entering into hell.
Ephesians 2:13,17-22.
